MacDaniel Signs, Inc., salutes the past, present & future

Ernest Edward McDaniel, 1906-1958, father of Julian Robert,Sr. Ernest, born in Nashville, TN. began his sign trade before the great depression of 1929, hand painting Karo Syrup & Mail Pouch tobacco advertisments on barns throughout the Southern states. Toward the end of World War II, 1943, he created MacDaniel Sign Co. in Beckley,W. VA. In 1947 he closed the company due to hardships caused by the war and relocated his wife & 5 children to Phoenix, AZ. Ernest worked for Meyers & Leiber Sign Co. for many years. In 1951, he became the instructor of the apprenticeship class at Phoenix Union Technical school, sponsored by local 548. His life was taken in a tragic boating accident in 1958.

Julian Robert McDaniel, born in 1933 in Nashville,TN. attended 5 years apprenticeship class under his father. Julian began his career employeed by Virgil Moss Sign Co. on to Sun Valley Sign Co. Julian's final employer before becoming a entrepreneur was Clyde Fitch Sign Co. Julian continues to feel the utmost respect for his mentor (Clyde) for his experience, expertise, quality and efficiency. In 1962, Julian and wife Marjorie Carol, raising four children, opened and operated again, MacDaniel Sign Co. Working out of a 500 sq.ft. location on E. Broadway, Julian sub contracted work for Clyde Fitch until Clyde passed away in 1969. In 1969-1982 Julian and Marjorie Carol worked together from their backyard covered patio on W. McDowell creating hand lettered signs & silk screening Real Estate signs for Ed Post Realty (now known as Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage) and many others. Marjorie Carol‘s interest in expanding their company in 1972 created the first professional installation service in Phoenix-Metro, Las Vegas & Tucson installing Real Estate posts for Red Carpet Realtors (now known as National Advantage Realty) then Ed Post, ERA & several others. Together, their diligent work ethics proved their success. MacDaniel Sign Co. relocated to Grand Ave. in 1982 along with their four children working in their business to send their parents off in 1989 on their well deserved retirement.

1989- Onward, we are the third generation of MacDaniel Signs, Inc., now located on 29th Ave., forced to relocate our well established company in 2001 welcoming the Grand overpass. With a great deal of respect and gratitude to our mentors who have spent their lives setting examples, building our reputation and achieving success, we thank you. With much growth in the family, history continues to repeat itself. We will in the future be saluting the fourth generation maintaining the high standards of commitment our company has always given to our customers.

We thank all of our customers (too numerous to mention) in the past, present, & future for your continued patronage.
